Hacked Accounts

Post by KJ9898 »

Someone started hacking steam accounts and are spamming everyone with a link that will let him takeover your account, if you get one do not click on it.

Please do not trust any steam links at all from now on.

If you really want to trust a link, LOOK at the link its self.

The link that is being sent around is spelled

steamcommUUnity

Look out for this, and be careful.

This is a really common phishing method. It's still relatively safe to click any links that look like steam (just make sure you don't get infected by a malware or something), just remember - when you click a link that looks like steam, it SHOULD open in your steam browser, not in your web browser (e.g. Chrome or Firefox.) Only logging in on the fake website will get your password stolen.

Learning how hackers try to steal your passwords is a good way to train yourself to spot these tricks. Always remember how your friends talk to you. If your friend always talks all sophisticated and stuff like, "Blah, you're a fish face, blah," then you'll know that a bad grammar message is suspicious.

EDIT: It'll show this in the URL for the real website on pages like the login.
