I can throw together a rough idea of a good parts list, and then you can swap things to your liking.
I assume your main focus will be gaming? Would you be interested in overclocking at all?
Edit:
Here's what I've come up with so far. It's a little over the price you gave, but since it's almost certain to be changed, that can be worried about later.
CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819116506 This is what I'd go with if you are not planning to overclock. If you do plan to overclock, then you'll need an aftermarket heat-sink, and I'd probably go with an I5-3570k if that's the case.
Mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813157293 I personally own this motherboard, and I've never had a problem with it. Great board for sure.
GPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150605 If budget allowed I probably would've gone for a GTX 670, but this is a great card at a great price.
SSD:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820239045 This one may be subject to change based on your preference. Personally, I'd say that no high-end build is complete without an SSD boot/primary drive.
RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231428 G.Skill makes phenomenal RAM at an outstanding price. You shouldn't need more than 8GB unless you plan to do any heavy video rendering or the like.
Optical Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827135204 I don't know if you'd want this or not. Some people don't even install these anymore. I keep one in just in case, I've never had to use it, but it's only $20.
HDD:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136533 Seeing as SSDs are pretty expensive per GB, you'll need some mass storage over that tiny 120GB SSD. 1TB of quality storage for $99, can't complain with that.
PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817139012 I own this power supply, and I have no complaints. The modular design gets rid of the issue of finding a place to hide unneeded cables. This amount of power leaves some headroom, so if you choose to upgrade in the future, you shouldn't have to replace this.
Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811119197 This one is very likely up to change. There are countless amounts of great enclosures out there, and I think you should browse around a bit and try to find one that fits your liking. After all, you'll be looking at that part every day. I'm a fan of Cooler Master cases for sure, but it was more or less just to estimate the cost of an enclosure in the final price.
Keep in mind that you'll need an Operating System too. If you want a Windows OS, that's another $100. However, you could always go for Linux.
I don't know what your current peripherals are like, but that may need to be something you look into as well.
Peripherals are just as important as your systems power. In my opinion, if you can't flawlessly interact with the game, you'll never get the full enjoyment out of your games.
This all currently adds up to a final price of $1,122.91 but it's likely to be far from the final version. My build probably had about 20 different versions before I was satisfied
