Why is this? All it is is an effective way of mining. Cheating would imply that we have an unfair advantage, but everyone is able to mine in the same ways and tactics.
Well it ruins the game, I have been watching the UHC series for a long time and they made this rule. Basically people will just sit in a strip mine all day until they get a full suit of diamond armor. It makes the game more challenging in many ways, for example; If you strip mine, you will almost NEVER encounter a mob and so that means, no challenge there. I highly suggest everyone go watch at least a couple UHC videos, they are very entertaining and fun to watch.
