I dont like how they have DLC planned for release even before the main game is released. They mostly do it for the money. EA was once a good company, but has gone worse over time. And don't even get me started on Activision and the whole CoD franchise.
Valve and Mojang all the way baby!

How is having DLC planned before release bad? It assures that the DLC packs will be on time, and have less bugs/glitches.

I think what Alex is saying is that all work should be focused on the main game until it's released, and that since it hadn't been released yet, that potential DLC should just be included in the main game.

True, but taking away from your game (in the form of release date dlc that should have been free of charge) to gain money in order to make a better game makes no sense. Thats basically means consumers get the quality of content that they would have had originally except with a release date dlc fee plus the expense of the game. EA isn't doing this whole 0-1+1=0 thing at the consumers expense just to start out where they left off, they are taking a sizable amount of the dlc money as profit. Now, as for EA being an evil company I don't disagree with that Sniper, but it seems like they are just being used as a scapegoat by other equally evil companies so they look more desirable.

Why would you get the dlc free? Thats what the premium is for. It's all part of the marketing. The purpose of Expansion Packs is to keep players interested into the game, and keep playing. After a while, the original maps get boring, so BAM, throw out some DLC - New maps, new guns. BOOM. Interested again. And the magic is that they already have it planned out.

The reason that the DLC shouldn't cost extra at release is, like cactus said, because they are spending their developing time on it instead of using that time to improve their game. As a result, the game is smaller then it would have been and you have to spend extra money on top of the amount you spent to purchase the game in it's entirety. If you allow yourself one year to make a game, then spend 1/4th of the year on downloadable content for your game instead of using all that time to make the original product you shouldn't charge extra for what you were already expected to do.
DLC is a great way for people who enjoy the producers original game to have more content, but it should never cut into the games development time unless the game costs less then full price to begin with (which is a very different buisness model then what EA is practicing, since it allows the game to be bought in pieces instead of one package. An example of this is a $20 base game with only single player, $20 dlc for multiplayer, and $20 dlc for expansions on the game & first DLC instead of a $60 game with all three. People get to choose what parts of the game they value this way, so someone who doesn't normally play multiplayer saves $20 by not buying it).
My mouse battery just died, so i'm going to take this as a sign that i should stop ranting

The mighty Walrus explained most of what I'm saying. They're charging $60 for the main game + like $20 for each DLC (and if I remember right, BF3 had like 4-5). And although there is a premium package for all the DLCs, you still pay $120 (if you buy the Premium thing for like $60, depending on when you buy it, now after all the DLC is released, it's set to $29.99) for the whole game. Which IMO is way too much.
Look at Valve, they sold CS:GO at $15 ON RELEASE. Yes, they earn money from small transactions for TF2. And yes, they earn money from being the middle man through Steam. The point is though, EA is profiting way more money than needed, considering that now they also have Origin, which they're the middle man off. I may have forgotten something to mention here, I just woke up.
